What does the 42 in your name mean?

The author Douglas Adams wrote “Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy” in 1978 as a BBC radio comedy before developing it into a “trilogy” of five books! As part of the story a computer gives the answer to the “ultimate question for life the universe and everything” – and it’s 42! If you haven’t discovered the guide yet – and likely you haven’t as you ask the question – go explore. It’s great fun.

What does grit mean?

Within psychology grit is a positive trait. It signals passion for long term goals and perseverance. As data management is more a marathon than a sprint these are values we can relate to. It’s also a combination of “grid” and “it”. As we offer software (IT) as a hosted solution and hence customers can get up and running quickly – like getting power from the electricity grid – combining them into grit made sense.

We are far away from Denmark. How will it perform here?

Our hosting partner has server farms in relevant parts of the world like New York, Frankfurt and Singapore to mention a few. We deploy our platform to the location that is nearest you and thereby reduce the latency as much as possible.

Looks cool – and dark! What about printing and screen shots?

Yes, we agree. It does look cool! And it’s great to look at and work with on the screen.

But in meeting rooms with bad projectors it can be hard to read and the dark background is not good for printing. We therefore also have a “light” theme user can switch to if they prefer or when needed for meeting rooms and printing

We already have our own internal compound/structure database. Can we still use grit42?

Yes, certainly. We can either just link to the compound numbers in your database – but then you will not have structures and chemical awareness in our platform – or we can extract and import your structures into ou

Can we also get your platform installed on our own servers on premise?

The short answer is “Yes!”

The longer answer is that we can work with you – and your IT department – and install the platform on your own servers behind your company firewall. It clearly makes things more complicated but there can be many good (and bad!) reasons for doing so. This is therefore someting we offer and our DevOps guys have done a lot of work to make the process as painless as possible.

We deploy using Docker containers so as long as your IT department can provide servers with Docker on it we can get you up and running fairly easy!

What about integrations into our existing environment and systems?

We naturally understand that you might have existing systems and equipment that you would like to hook up to the grit42 platform. That’s fine!
